Upon Meeting a Girl at a Party

he saw himself in the frame, the glare

of the reflected light. the way his index

finger rubbed his mouth as he thought about

what lay before him. of past lights in

nightclubs. it could have been worth it. he

remembered the dancing lights and bodies and

got jealous of what he could have had. but

what could he have had? not much at all,

he thought. it was nothing, he thought.

it was nothing in fact. it was nothing at all.

she played his emotions like a string and

he didn't make much of it beside the fact

                    that she could.

temporary awe is like a note resounding in a

                    millisecond.

closed eyes cry out songs to mothers:

union between man and woman that

                    is prayerful.

                    all in an eyeball

                    contained in a footstep—

                    intersection of multi-various voices rather

parallel in harmony like chords of strings

                    struck by pianos.

glibness of minds washed, overpowered by

choral hymns crying out songs to God.
