silicon valley is obsessed with solutions. but what about the question? what are the problems we should solve? when is technology not enough?
as though we had it figured out with each new software release. patched up, eliminated bugs, performance enhanced.
i thought that perhaps the hypocrisy of it all was that the solutions addressed the exact same problems; instead of focusing on inequality, tech worsened it. Instead of focusing on education, it promoted a narrow view of it. Instead of simplifying lives, SV simplified going 'live.'
i wish i knew the answer to such pressing and deep issues, but I remain as perplexed as before as to how we can make a more just and equitable society.
is it education? it seems so many odds are stacked against poor youth, including lack of family support, college opportunities, and the likelihood they'll have a bad teacher.
