A Prose-Poem

A lighter post tonight, since I'm feeling tired of critical analysis... This started as a poem and ended up into rambling. Now it's more like creative venting...

TWO WAYS OF EATING A WATERMELON*

The first bite is the splitting of a celery stalk --
soft and deliberate on the tongue.
No fear -- there are seldom seeds contained
in the first mastication.
Dilemmas surface. So do the slick seeds
threatening one's enjoyment. The chitinous
cellulose failing to dissolve on contact with
one's buds. The taste is dead, woody...
how the inside of a dresser must taste like.

First way:
Head-first technique. Leave no seed uningested.
Or, slowly separate mush from inedible solid.

Second way:
Pick at surface of melon until seeds extracted.
Downside: Melon bits on hand. Seeds possibly still in interior of melon.

Worst-case scenario: A startling CRUNCH as
molar splits open an inedible. If the surface
of a seed tastes like the inside of a dresser,
this experience tastes like a sweaty sock in said dresser.

*Assuming one's cut of choice is triangular, duh!
